H. Taufiq Choudhury was admitted as an Attorney & Counsellor at Law to the New York Bar in August 1991 and as a Barrister & Solicitor at the New Zealand High Court in July 2015. He received his legal education at Kyiv National University, Ukraine (LL.M. in International Law, 1981), Europa Institute of the University of Amsterdam (Post-Graduate Diploma in European Integration, 1986), and the University of Georgia School of Law (LL.M., 1988). He also obtained Certificates of Proficiency in Criminal, Property and Constitutional Laws from Auckland University of Technology in 2018.
Taufiq’s US and New Zealand practices concentrate on employment/business-based immigration. However, his many years of experience also includes advice and representation in other areas of immigration such as family student and visitors’ visas. His business clientele includes IT consulting companies, financial institutions, healthcare facilities and academic institutions. He counsels businesses on compliance with immigration record creation and maintenance and on the hiring and retention of non-citizens.
Taufiq’s articles on immigration issues have been published in ethnic newspapers and he has given interviews to broadcast and print media including the BBC. He is a frequently invited to speak on immigration issues before members of ethnic communities.
Taufiq served as a Special Counsel to the Consul General of Bangladesh in New York on immigration matters and represented him in negotiations with high-level DHS officials in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Taufiq is fluent in Bangla and Russian.
